How does an AGB code work?

When is an AGB code required?
An AGB code has been mandatory for formal healthcare providers since January 1, 2016, pursuant to the Healthcare Market Regulation Act. Anyone who submits claims to a health insurer, healthcare administration office, or municipality needs this code. This also applies to self-employed healthcare professionals with their own clients.
The code is not required in every situation. If you work exclusively for private individuals who pay out of pocket and do not submit claims, you do not need one. Similarly, a self-employed professional working as a subcontractor for an institution submits claims under that institution’s code. This changes as soon as a healthcare budget comes into play.
How much does an AGB code cost?
You can apply for an AGB code through Vektis. The costs consist of an application fee and an annual registration fee. More importantly, it costs you, the customer, nothing: 12B Clean already has the code.
There are requirements for an application. The most important ones are:
- Chamber of Commerce registration. The company is registered with the Chamber of Commerce.
- WTZA Report. Compliance with the reporting requirement under the Healthcare Providers Admission Act.
- Qualifications. A BIG registration or registration with a recognized quality registry.
- Supporting documents. Examples include a Certificate of Good Conduct and policy documents.
Once approved, the process usually takes a few weeks. It is therefore not a mere formality, but a deliberate step that positions a provider as a formal participant in the healthcare system.
